This biannual digital and print magazine accepts creative nonfiction, essays, and memoir pieces that explore some aspect of personal experience in the outdoors. This includes but is not limited to adventure in extreme wilderness landscapes as well as urban, whether it is about climbing trees, mountains or buildings, kayaking rivers or oceans, walking in pursuit of rare insects, pursuing the art of parkour, oceanic living, or mountain culture. Any latitude and longitude is game, so long as it is your best original writing, takes readers beyond the mundane and seeks to discover deeper meaning. Essays of academic nature will not be considered.

There is a 5,000 word limit per submission. Send no more than two pieces of nonfiction prose (no longer than 5,000 words put together) and no more than 10 haiku at a time. Please wait until the next reading period to submit again. Submissions should be 12 point Times New Roman font with standard one inch margins. Pages must be double spaced and numbered with name and contact info typed at the top of your first page.
Simultaneous submissions are considered, but immediate notification of acceptance elsewhere is required. Response time is usualy 1-4 months. Issues will be made available on the website in digital format in July and January.

Reading periods are typically Feb. 1 to May 15 and Aug.1 to Nov. 15.

Please provide a brief bio about yourself/your work to be published with your accepted submission. At this time Adventum cannot offer payment for contributions.

Haiku: Accepts seasonal haiku summer/fall in the July issue, and winter/spring in the January issue. Please send no more than 10 haiku at one time. The conventional 5-7-5 form is looked upon favorably, however we acknowledge variations in this form.

Photography: Accepts high quality digital photography. Will consider individual photos as well as photo essays. Please submit between 2 and 8 JPEG’s, no larger than 2MB each. Each image should have a title and a short (one sentence is fine) comment about each image.

We hold first and one time rights only and First North American rights revert to author upon publication. We reserve the right to post your work in the Archives we might request select pieces for future anthologies, and you reserve the right to decline our offer.
